Premier Health 5/2 Clinics
What is the 5/2 Fast Diet?
It featured in the BBC2 Horizon documentary 'Eat, Fast & Live Longer' in August 2012. Key points are:
- Eat what you want five days a week; then, on two 'fasting days' eat 500 calories if you're a woman, and 600 calories if you're a man.
- It doesn't matter which days are for feeding and which for fasting, as long as you stick to the 5/2 ratio.
- On fasting days you can eat your calories in one go, or spread them through the day.
What are the benefits of the 5/2 Fast Diet?
There is evidence that:
- It's a healthy way to lose weight.
- It can reduce levels of IGF-1. High levels of this insulin-like growth factor 1 can lead to accelerated ageing, cardiovascular problems and cancer.
- It switches on DNA repair genes.
- It reduces blood pressure, cholesterol and glucose levels.
What devices are used for the health checks?
The checks are carried out using several devices, including:
- a unique German device, the only one of its kind in Ireland, which produces a thorough report on overall health
- a Body Composition Monitor (weight, body fat, visceral fat and Body Mass Index)
- an LDX device (cholesterol and glucose)
A Framingham report, which predicts the risk of a heart condition over the next ten years, will also be provided, as well as Waist Measurement.
All the testing devices are accepted as medical devices by the Irish Medical Board.
